ABOUT

STAT is an anti-profit arts & culture zine made for the North-West.

Publishing print issues every two months, STAT aims to redistribute cultural focus to smaller towns in the North-West, showcasing left-field, radical arts outside of Manchester - be they visual, written, fictional or journalistic. Reviewed are music, publications, exhibitions and live shows. Content tends toward the hopefully melancholic, darkly funny and compassionate fringes of a modern Lancashire.

***

STAT is anti-profit. Any money generated goes towards the upkeep or expansion of the zine, most importantly: paying the creators who contribute. STAT sees profit as fundamentally opposed to the communal values it celebrates and will challenge the assumptions of profit in the ideas presented in each issue.

Due to these principles STAT relies on the support of our readers and stockists as well as support via investments such as we've received from Wigan Council. If you're interested in developing an independent vehicle for Northern cultural celebration, you can support our work following the link the below.

WHO MAKES STAT?

Pete Mercer
Editor & Designer

Birthing STAT in 2020 with the support of Leigh's creative grassroots, PETE is STAT's mother, creator and artistic defender. PETE is responsible for working on contributors’ submissions, designing funky graphix and mailing every last copy of STAT. It is a gruelling and tiring job, but PETE is always there to do it with a smile (pictured).

Some PETE likes include:
architecture. post-punk bands that talk-sing. cheesy chips.

George Francis Lee
Commissioning Editor

GEORGE is STAT’s commissioning editor. That means he reads everything you send in (everything). He is also responsible for foraging interesting stories for our readers, whether they be in Wigan, the Wirral, or wherever else. If you have even the smallest inkling of a story or interesting article in your head, this moustachioed man wants to hear it.

Some GEORGE likes include:
wallace and gromit. anti-manchester sentiment.
