Formed By A River: Vol. 2

a charity compilation album of unreleased music

In gentrification of cultural districts in recent years and measly recovery support during the pandemic many of our grassroots music venues are facing difficult times, if not closure. It was the urgency of this which drove Max Lilley, frontman of Hull band Bloodhound, to create Formed By A River - a charity compilation album from DIY artists both sides of the M62. Put to crowdfunder, the album raised over £500 for Music Venue Trust.

SLAP RASH

This Monday (14th June) sees the launch of a second volume. Again, put to crowdfunder, proceeds from Vol. 2 will be split and donated to Music Venue Trust and Stagehand. With no plan for a second volume, Lilley was again spurred on by lacking support for the hospitality and music industries, saying:

"...it was clear that there was just NOTHING. I felt kind of helpless so I thought, what can I do to help? Then it just kind of occurred to me that I could do another volume and I wanted to make it more ambitious, make more of a difference, and showcase more incredible artists. This volume is full of wonderfully versatile and interesting artists and I am absolutely humbled to be able to present these tracks to people. There are some really incredible songs on here.”

Featuring unreleased tracks, live versions and demos from a range of Northern bands, both up-and-coming (Salfords SLAP RASH) and well-loved (Yorks The Howl & The Hum), Formed By A River Vol. 2 acts as a vehicle for artist solidarity in extremely trying times.
